LOOKING AHEAD

| Notice Our Jigsaw Festival and Gibsons Open Jigsaw Championships are coming up starting Friday 19th June until Tuesday 23rd June. This is our main fundraiser, and we will require volunteers to cover various jobs over the event. We are also running the Championships at the Rowley Mile Racecourse on Sunday 21st and again volunteers are required. I appreciate we are small in numbers, but if you are able to help, please sign up on the forms at the back of Church. We will also be grateful for donations of cakes, large rather than small, as these seem to sell better and gifts for the tombola. A few of our usual volunteers aren’t in the best of health so if you can support us please do as it’s extra important this year. Janet Ramsay-Helie 07759 679 426 Important information from John Borda The closure of Lloyds will mean that there are no more banks in Newmarket. This has triggered a process to install a “banking hub”, used by all the banks for largely the same functions as they used their bank premises. Counter services are still available at the Post Office, and will also be offered at the hub, with the addition of other services by banks on a rotating basis. The plan is to open it before Lloyds closes. More info will be available when a suitable property has been selected. FOOD BANK This is moving from the Catholic Church Hall to the Turner Hall and will be open from mid to late mornings every Thursday. Volunteers welcome The British Racing School & Newmarket Charitable Foundation Are asking for volunteers (over 25) to host 16-18 year-olds beginning their careers in racing, who can offer a safe, welcoming home; agree to undergo safeguarding checks and can support such a young person starting out in the horseracing industry. For more information etc. 01638 665103 / 07702 671388 or stablestart@brs.org.uk St Mary’s Charitable Giving During 2026 we will be raising money for Red2Green, a local charity based in Swaffham Bulbeck, which aims to support people with learning disabilities or on the autism spectrum. A speaker from Red2Green is coming to the Mothers’ Union on Thursday 7th May where they will be talking about one of their projects, Gardening for the Learning Disabled Newmarket Open Door is in need of food and preferably monetary or voucher donations as more people are using the Food Bank. I have booked to see Sleeping Beauty ballet at the Royal Albert Hall matinee performance for 26th June 2026. Tickets will be £75/78 depending on coach fees. Almost half of the seats have already been reserved! There is a list at the back if you wish to go.
